The other week I booked myself a room at the Kerrington House, B&B in Axminster as I was attending an event at River Cottage HQ, which is a short taxi drive away (£12). I arrived in Axminster by train and it is only a 5 minute walk to Kerrington House (walk to the end of the road out of the station, turn right, walk to the end of this road, turn right and the hotel is a little way along on the left hand side). I booked online via a booking website and paid up front. The only downside of this was that I didn’t realise or notice that check in was normally 4pm and turned up at 2.30 expecting to be able to get in. As it happened the friendly owner was out, but was available by phone and all was quickly sorted out. I’d suggest making some arrangements for your check in time, if you need to arrive before 4pm.
I had a light, bright family room to myself. The room was a very generous size and I think it would still be if you had an extra bed in it (I think the extra bed was probably a sofa bed, but that was just a sofa during my stay). In my room there was a well stocked tea and coffee making station with all the usual things and some nice extras like biscuits and herbal teas. If you were after something stronger, there was a decanter of sherry (I think) with two glasses, which is a thoughtful touch. As you can see from the pictures, the room was well presented and everything was spotlessly clean.
Wi-fi is a must for me as a blogger and the connection was good and strong. I didn’t try streaming video, but it worked very well for checking emails and social media. There were no connection issues or problems if you moved around the room. The bed was large, soft and comfy, giving me an excellent night’s sleep.
Within the bathroom there was a good range of toiletries: bar soap, liquid hand soap, body wash, body lotion, shampoo, separate conditioner, etc. There were also nice touches like cotton buds and emery boards: I felt very well looked after. There are bath robes and plenty of towels available: clearly a lot of thought has gone into making your stay a comfortable one.
Breakfast is served downstairs in the dining room which is just off the kitchen. There’s a breakfast, self service buffet with a range of cereals, fruit juice, yoghurt and fruit. On the menu (and cooked to order) are a choice of cooked breakfasts. The ingredients used were good quality and two eggs were provided as standard on my full English breakfast order. I asked for tea to go with my meal and was provided with a large pot with a pot of hot water for topping up too. At breakfast it was good to see that Kerrington House gets repeat custom from business travellers.
Highly recommended.

Wow, I love the interiors, they’re beautiful! Great to know the service is so good all round, too.
